The Cameron Family welcome you to join us at The Yanko on Thursday 22 September for our 2022 On-property Ram Sale.

La Nińa has given us another year of above average rainfall which has led to ideal lambing conditions here at The Yanko. With such great pasture growth lamb survival has been high, marking 162% lambs from maiden twin ewes.

Our breeding objective continues to focus on uncomplicated animals showing high value fleecesof quality and quantity, with early growth and good reproductive traits. Correct conformation andstructure is paramount in the selection process. The 2021 drop rams are meeting this aim, andpresent as an even line of sires.

We have completed our fifth year collecting genomic samples of all rams bred, which provides fullpedigree, and aids in the selection of industry leading sires. The 50K genomic test gives an indication of the genetic ability of each animal and this information is qualified by the measurement of fleece, body weight and structural traits at specific age stages. These ASBV’s are further described on second last page of the catalogue.

The sale with be interfaced with AuctionsPlus. Videos of select rams along with ASBVs will be available.

Back in Bendigo for the Sheep and Wool Show

Bendigo provided a great opportunity to catch up with many familiar faces after a long hiatus. It was an enjoyable event with the industry reconvening to share ideas, discuss the future and compare notes on the last couple of seasons.

The 12 Yanko and Poll Yanko rams on displayed gave a clear representation of the direction of the stud, being rams that have strong constitution, high wool quality and quantity, uncomplicated skins and data to back it up.

There was a lot of interest in the sires, in particular Poll Yanko 210006, an E.T. bred ram sired by Collinsville Regal 242.

2022 Mid Year Newsletter

As we see another start to a great season in 2022, it allows time to reflect on the benefits of three good seasons.

High prices, exceptional lambing percentages and quality wool clips have provided merino breeders along the east coast with positive results which has driven the industry forward.
