National Merino Challenge

Posted on May 19, 2016

Over the weekend, the National Merino Challenge was held in Sydney with The Yanko sponsoring The University of Sydney’s team. Run by the AWI, the NMC is both a competition and learning tool for Secondary and Tertiary students looking to gain more knowledge about the Wool Industry and saw students travel from four states including WA, SA, VIC and NSW to attend the event.

Unfortunately no one from the University’s team was in the winner’s circle, but they walked away with a great insight into the industry. Highlights included meeting industry leaders and professionals including Paul Swan, General Manager of Research at AWI, David Webster, AWI Director and Stuart Hodgson, AWI Sheep Industry Specialist and the previous sheep classer at The Yanko.  In the end it was an invaluable experience as students grew their network and the Wool Industry was promoted to students preparing to enter the workforce.
